Seven Bridges Scour Repair Project

Description

The project involves the installation of rock slope protection at two locations. Location 1 Salt Creek: at this location the project will grade the slope under Highway 20/Salt Creek Bridge (Caltrans Bridge No. 15-0022) in span 1 to excavate enough parent soil to result in the optimum streambed profile to maintain water conveyance. Once the contour grading is finished approximately 80 cy of RSP will be installed over a filter fabric. RSP will be installed at a 2:1 slope. A patch of giant reed located at the upstream portion of the bridge will be removed to aid water conveyance. Staging will occur in large pullouts adjacent to the project area. Location 2 Lurline Creek: this location includes work at the I-5/Lurline Creek southbound bridge (Br. No 15-0072L) and the I-5/Lurline Creek northbound bridge (Br. No 15-0072R). At this location the project will excavate enough parent soil to result in the optimum streambed profile to maintain water conveyance. After the contour grading is completed, contiguous RSP will be placed over a filter fabric from the eastern side of Caltrans' right of way line to the western side of the Caltrans' right of way line. Approximately 1370 cy of RSP will be installed in this location. RSP not located under a bridge will be planted, primarily with willows. The RSP will be installed to match existing slope contour. Staging will occur at the I-5 center divider or adjacent frontage roads. After completion of construction activities, any temporary fill and construction debris will be removed, disturbed areas will be restored to pre-project conditions.
