PG&E Pittsburg-Tesla 230 kV Transmission Line Reconductoring Project - Revised IS/MND

Description

The Project includes reconductoring of the Pittsburg-Tesla 230 kV Transmission Line within Alameda County. The Project involves multi-stage activities, including installing reconductoring equipment at all towers; installing top cage extensions with the use of helicopters, new insulators, arm extensions, and/or modifications at select towers; using guard structures to protect roads, utility line, and railway crossings; and establishing pull sites to set up and pull the wire (conductor). The Project ITP Major Amendment revises the total amount of potential impacts to California tiger salamander (Ambystoma californiense) habitat. A potential delay in restoration to temporary impact areas shall be mitigated as needed by an increase in mitigation ratio for up to 3.65 acers that may not be reseeded and recontoured in time for optimal restoration. The Project may therefore require up to 10.17 acres of mitigation credits. The Project is expected to result in incidental take of California tiger salamander (Covered Species), which is designated as a threatened species under CESA. The ITP amendment as issued by CDFW, authorizes incidental take of Covered Species subject to various terms and conditions, including the requirement that all authorized impacts are fully mitigated.
