Harkins Bridge Replacement Project

Description

The project entails the removal of an existing bridge, installation of a replacement bridge and restoration of the riparian banks at the old bridge location on Purisima Creek, approximately 100 yds east of the intersection of Higgins Canyon Road and Purisima Creek Road on the Whittemore Gulch Trail within the Purisima Creek Open Space Preserve in San Mateo County. The new bridge will be installed approximately 100 ft upstream of the existing bridge and will be a 60-ft long by 15-ft wide prefabricated steel bridge with structural concrete abutments. It will serve as a crossing for patrol, fire and other emergency vehicles. A temporary culvert crossing with an associated water diversion will be installed and a new access roadway and trail to the proposed bridge will be constructed. The existing bridge location will be restored with native vegetation and new biotechnically stabilized slopes. CDFW is executing a lake and streambed alteration agreement, no 1600-2015-0079-R3, pursuant to section 1602 fish and game code to the project permittee, Midpeninsula Open Space District.
