David Starr Jordan High School Redevelopment
Description
The project consists of approval by the Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC) of a Removal Action Workplan (RAW) submitted by Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) dated June 4, 2014. DTSC's approval action is being undertaken pursuant to the regulatory authority granted under Chapter 6.8, Division 20, sections 25323.1 and 25356.1 of the Health and Safety Code. The purpose of the RAW is to remediate potential risk to human health and the environment by reducing or eliminating future exposure to soils impacted by elevated concentrations of lead at the Jordan High School site (Site). The RAW combines excavation with off-site disposal of lead-impacted soil. Activities to be conducted pursuant to the RAW include the following: -Excavate approximately 752 cubic yards of lead-impacted soil from identified locations; -Conduct confirmation soil sampling, compare confirmation data to the cleanup goal, an excavate additional soil volume until the cleanup goal is met; -Load and transport approximately 752 cubic yards of lead-impacted soil to an appropriate facility; and -Site restoration using clean imported fill material.
