Mission Creek Restoration Project
Description
The project reach extends from Palm Avenue crossing to Driscoll Road crossing. Mission Creek has a watershed of 5.4 square miles and is the primary drainage in the City of Fremont. Project components include the removal of vegetation, construction of a stable channel bed and banks, using bio-engineering methods for bank stabilization, creek meander restoration, creation and enhancement of bed morphologic diversity (e.g. ponds, riffles, etc.), and extensive riparian re-vegetation. The purposes of the restoration project are to reduce erosion and downstream sedimentation within the Laguna Creek watershed, restore and extend a native riparian corridor, increase environmental awaremess in the community, and provide educational opportunities for students.
