Title
Shake Ridge/ Omo Ranch Vegetation Management Project
Description
This project will construct a portion of a shaded fuel break along Shake Ridge Road in Amador County, ridges east of Highway 88 and Omo Ranch Road in El Dorado County. Within the project area forest floor litter, low growing shrubs, brush, conifer thickers and woody debris will be removed through a series of prescribed burns. The proposed fuel break will aid in fire suppression efforts in the event of a wildland fire. Fire intensity and crown fire potential is reduced, the effectiveness of air and ground attack forces is enhanced, safety for fire suppression personnel is increased and success for controlling high intensity wildland fires is increased. The strategy is to control fires quickly, keep the size of the fire small and reduce the damage a large conflagration-type fire will have on watersheds, wildlife habitat and structures. The project will be conducted under CDF's Vegetation Management Program which incorporates environmental reviews, standard best management practices and appropriate mitigation measures to ensure that any potential adverse environmental impacts are totally avoided or minimized to less than significant.
