Document Description
The California Department of Transportation (CALTRANS) District 9 is proposing the Sonora Junction Shoulders project, located west of Bridgeport near Sonora Junction in Mono County. This project proposes to widen the existing paved shoulders on U.S. 395 from Burcham Flat Road to the south side of the US 395/SR 108 intersection (postmiles 91.6-93.4). It also proposes to install shoulder rumble strips, upgrade existing guardrails, and correct the super-elevations of three substandard curves. There are three “build” alternatives considered for this project. All three alternatives will also require realigning Hot Creek at postmile 92.35 to prevent the creek from undermining the highway. An option to install wildlife crossing structures under the highway and exclusionary fencing is also proposed. Right of way will need be acquired from the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest as well as temporary construction easements.
