- Caltrans proposes to upgrade existing non-standard bridge barrier railings to current standards at the Fruitvale Ave Undercrossing [UC] (Bridge Number 33-0324) at postmile (PM) R41.43, the Broadway-Richmond Blvd UC (Bridge Number 33-0285) at PM 44.51, and the Webster St UC (Bridge Number 33-0296) at PM 44.81, all located along I-580 in the City of Oakland. Seismic retrofits of both the Broadway-Richmond Blvd UC and the Fruitvale Ave UC are also proposed. Additionally, Caltrans proposes to demolish two pedestrian overcrossings (POCs), the Santa Clara Ave POC at PM 43.76 and the Van Buren Ave POC at PM 43.75 both located along I-580. All of these improvements are common to the project's 2 Build Alternatives. Build Alternative 1 includes the improvements described in addition to the construction of a new replacement POC across I-580 from Crescent St to MacArthur Blvd. Build Alternative 2 includes the shared improvements in addition to surface street improvements to Grand Avenue, MacArthur Blvd, and Santa Clara Ave that include protected bike lanes, pedestrian safe crossings, etc.
