Project Info
- Title
- Michigan Bluff Community Protection Project - SNC 1322
- Description
- The Sierra Nevada Conservancy would provide funding for fuel reduction and thinning treatments, including hand thinning, mastication, and lop and scatter treatments, on at least 1,266 acres of federal land within the Tahoe National Forest. The treatment areas contain stands of beetle-killed trees intermixed with live trees that are highly susceptible to further beetle infestations and pose a severe fire hazard to the community of Michigan Bluff. The primary goals of the fuel reduction treatments are to reduce fuel loads around communities, improve forest health and resilience, and provide safer ingress and egress on existing roads for the public and emergency personnel in the event of wildfire.
