Carlotta Curve Improvement Project
Description
Caltrans proposes to improve horizontal and vertical curves and widen shoulders on State Route (SR) 36 from post miles (PMs) 10.5 to 10.8 in Humboldt County, California, about 250 miles north of San Francisco and 6 miles east of the community of Carlotta. Pamplin Grove County Park is just east of the project (outside the project limits). Within the project limits, SR 36 is a rural, two-lane conventional highway through mountainous and forested terrain with a posted speed limit of 55 miles per hour. The road has a rolling profile and follows the north bank of the Van Duzen River. Lane widths are 12 feet and the roadway has a total paved width of approximately 26.5 feet and three reversing curves.
