Santa Ana Sucker Habitat Restoration Project

Description

CDFW has executed Lake and Streambed Alteration Agreement No. 1600-2016-0038-R6, pursuant to section 1602 of the Fish and Game Code to the project Applicant, the Orange County Water District. The project is limited to the construction of ten below-grade and ten above-grad rock gabions in the Santa Ana River, as well as an access road and staging area. Five below-and above-grade gabions will be placed along the southern riverbank and five below- and above-grade gabions will be placed along the northern riverbank. For the placement of each gabion, an area will be excavated measuring five feet deep, twelve feet long, and three feet wide. A below-grade wire mesh gabion basket will be excavated measuring five feet deep, twelve feet long, and three feet wide. A below grade wire mesh gabion basket will be installed in the excavated area and will be filled with 7 cubic yards of rock material and secured. Subsequently, a 12 foot long by 3 foot wide by 3 foot deep gabion will be installed directly on top of the below grade gabion and filled with 4 cubic yards of rock material. A 20-foot wide temporary access road will be constructed from Archibald Avenue to the Santa Ana River, along with a 100-foot diameter staging area.
