Title
Sacramento International Airport Solar PV Project
Description
The proposed project consists of the installation of two alternating current photovoltaic (PV) generation facilities totaling 6.5 megawatts ("North Site" and "East Site") in the Airport operations area. The North Site will be located on 30 acres, with solar arrays encompassing approx. 20 acres. The East Site will be located on 26 acres, with solar arrays encompassing approx. 17 acres. Upon completion, the North Site and East Site (collectively, "Project") will provide electric power to the Sacramento International Airport. Construction for the project is anticipated to last seven months over three phases: site preparation; system installation; and system testing, commissioning and cleanup. Construction will occur simultaneously on the two sites with up to fifty workers on the project-wide site at any given time. Site preparation will involve preparing the land for installation of arrays, related infrastructure, ingress-egress points, and temporary construction staging areas. The North Site will require land grubbing on approx. 2 acres. The remainder of the site is an existing parking lot and requires little preparation. System installation requires pile driving, trenching for electrical conduits, and some underground boring for conduits. The Project will utilize existing roads within the Airport for construction access and routine maintenance. Erection of the solar arrays will include installing support structures and associated electrical equipment; including I-beams, or "standards" are typically spaced 26' along the row and 12.5' between the rows and installed to a height above ground of approx. 5 feet. The top of the PV module will be approx. 7 feet above grade when at full tracking angle. Once the standards have been installed, the horizontal cross-members of the single-axis tracking system and associated motors will be placed and secured. A galvanized metal racking system, which holds the PV modules in the correct position for maximum capture of solar energy, are then assembled and attached to the horizontal cross members. The arrays will consist of a single-axis tracking system. Trenching along approx. 2,000 feet will be required to install the necessary electrical hookups to the Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD) facilities. During testing, commissioning , and clean-up, on-site activity will be limited to a few technical experts. Once operational, it is anticipated that two to five people will be onsite up to twice per year for one week for regular maintenance and panel washing.
