Title
Benbow Dam Removal Project
Description
The project is limited to two stream encroachments on SF Eel River and East Branch of the SF Eel River. The SF Eel River encroachment is for the removal of the Benbow Dam to restore natural flow and facilitate fish passage and improve habitat for aquatic species in the Benbow Lake State Recreation Area. The East Branch of the SF Eel River encroachment is a temporary construction crossing to access the dam. The dam is a concrete dam (approximately 60 ft wide x 300 ft long x 20 ft high) spanning the river banks. The dam was an annual seasonal dam (June to Sept) constructed in 1931 to provide power and water to the Benbow Inn and to create an approx. 1234 acre recreational lake. The dam removal will result in approximately 9.4 acres of temporary impacts to the SF Eel River with construction access, riparian planting, river diversion, and river grading activities.
