New McCandless Drive Elementary School Project

Description

The project is the approval of a Removal Action Workplan by the DTSC that would authorize activities related to the mitigation of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), arseni, and naturally occuring asbestos (NOA) detected in soil. Activities to be conducted pursuant to the approved RAW include: -In-situ bioremediation is the selected remedial action fro PCBs in soil. The total estimated volume of PCBs impacted soil to be treated by bioremediation is approx. 16,400 cubic-yards; -Soil excavation, removal, and offsite disposal is the selected remedial action for the arsenic outliers. At each outlier location a 10-foot by 10-foot area will be excavated to approx. depths of 3-feet. The total volume of soil to be excavated is estimated to be 45 insitu cubic-yards (cy); -Implementation of engineering controls (ECs) and institutional controls (ICs) are the selected remedial actions to reduce or eliminate potential exposure to NOA at the Project Site. ECs include capping with paved areas, building foundations, and/or clean fill material. ICs primarily consist of development of an operation and maintenance (O&M) plan; and development of a soils management plan.
