Project Info
- Title
- California Department of Transportation Fontana Solar Photovoltiac Project
- Description
- The Proposed Project is a 1.241-MW ground-mounted solar photovoltaic (PV) power generation system that will generate electricity for the California DOT's Traffic Management Center (TMC), Park and Ride, and Southwest Regional Laboratory (SRL) facilities. The PV power system would be built on an approximately 7.8-acre portion of the 35-acre parcel. A solar field would be the primary feature of the Proposed Project. The solar array would be split into two distinct blocks behind and north/northeast of the existing TMC building. Solar panels would be organized in rows, with each row separated by about 15 to 20 feet (from post to post). Panels, including steel support structures, would be typically 6 to 7 feet in height. Depending on soil conditions and topography, they would be up to a maximum of 8 feet in height. The solar arrays would convert incident sunlight to direct current (DC) electrical power which would then be converted to alternating current (AC) by two centrally-located inverters before being delivered to the TMC and SRL meters that serve the buildings.
