Title
Fresno Canyon Flood Mitigation Project
Description
CDFW has executed Streambed Alteration Agreement No. 1600-2017-0224-R5, pursuant to section 1602 of the Fish and Game Code to the project Applicant, Ventura County Watershed Protection District. Project, as proposed, is to construct a bypass storm drain facility to transport floodwaters, sediment and debris from Fresno Canyon to Ventura River. The project involves the placement of a 9-foot diameter reinforced concrete (RC) pipe via horizontal boring and open trench methods. Horizontal boring will take place starting from Fresno Canyon hillside, pass under SR 33, and finish at the end of Edison Street. From Edison Street west to the Ventura River the pipe will be installed via the open trench method. The inlet of the pipe at the Fresno Canyon hillside will have riprap bank protection installed to prevent erosion around the pipe and to direct flows into the inlet structure. A 54-inch diameter RC pipe will bypass approx. 400 cubic feet per second (cfs) to the existing Fresno Canyon channel. The Fresno Canyon channel will remain in place to carry the 400 cfs bypass flow and local overland flows. Other protections, sewer line, operation and maintenance access roads, fence, gates, a new outlet, headwalls, and a graded flow path. Equipment used to complete the project includes loader/excavators, bulldozers, cement trucks, dump trucks, backhoes, crane, water trucks, generators, forklifts, direct-bore equipment, chainsaws, and chippers.
