Title
Mira Sorrento Substation Project
Description
The proposed project is located in the Sorrento Mesa area within the community of Mira Mesa in the City of San Diego, CA. The proposed 1.4-acre Mira Sorrento Substation would be situated on a 3.7-acre parcel and located approximately 600 feet northeast of I-805 and approximately 800 feet from the nearest residences. The new 120-megavolt ampere (MVA), 69-/12-kilovolt (kV) distribution substation would be constructed and operated by San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E) to meet existing and anticipated customer-driven electrical load growth and to improve distribution equipment reliability in the Sorrento Mesa area. Power to the substation facility will be supplied by an existing SDG&E 69 kV transmission line (TL665) that will require installation of underground transmission facilities off the substation site. Initially, six 12 kV underground distribution circuits will be installed and routed to Mira Sorrento Place to tie into the existing underground system serving the area. At full buildout, the substation is planned to have 120 MVA capacity with four 30 MVA transformer banks; four 69 kV lines; sixteen 12 kV circuits; four 12 kV capacitors and four bays of standard steel rack, approximately 30 feet tall, of 69 kV bus and 69 kV transformer; and one 40 foot-long x 20-foot-wide masonry block control shelter. In addition, on the northeast side of the substation site, two tiered retaining walls would be constructed that would be approximately 32 and 20 feet in height. Access to the substation facility will be via two 30-foot-wide driveways from Mira Sorrento Place to the west of the substation.
