Title
Avenue 60 Domestic Water Transmission Main
Description
The Avenue 60 Domestic Water Transmission Main project proposes the construction of approximately 10,000 feet of open trench and 1,350 feet of subsurface boring (using both directional boring and "jack and bore" methods) for a 24-inch domestic water pipeline along Avenue 60 between Polk Street and Pierce Street. Most of the pipeline will be constructed within the Avenue 60 right-of-way; subsurface boring will take place beneath the Coachella Valley Stormwater Channel (CVSC), Hwy 111, UPRR and 86S Expressway. The pipeline will connect the existing domestic water system downstream of the booster pumping station located on the Ion Exchange Treatment Plant No. 6806 (IXTP) site at the project's eastern terminus. A pressure reducing valve will be installed on the IXTP site where the pipeline connects to the existing domestic water system. The purpose of this project is to provide a more reliable domestic water service to existing and future CVWD customers in the Mecca, North Shore, and Area 23 pressure zones. This connection provides a redundant water supply to CVWD's eastern most customers and will reduce the demands on the IXTP for domestic water. In addition, the installation of the water transmission pipeline will allow CVWD to expand its domestic water service east of Polk Street and south of Airport Boulevard, providing existing and future domestic water customers with a reliable water source.
