Title
Lockhart Substation Project
Description
The Project involves constructing the Lockhart Substation and associated facilities to interconnect the 250 megawatt Abengoa Mojave Solar Project to Southern California Edison's existing Coolwater-Kramer No. 1 220 kilovolt transmission line. In order to support the interconnection, a telecommunications Special Protection System will be required to provide transmission line protection, monitoring, and remote operation capabilities of the electrical equipment at Lockhart Substation. The Project will result in permanent impacts to 23.22 acres of Mohave ground squirrel (Xerospermophilus mohavensis) and desert tortoise (Gopherus agassizii) habitat resulting in incidental take of individuals of these species, both of which have been designated as threatened under the California Endangered Species Act (CESA). The incidental take permit issued by DFG authorizes incidental take of species listed under CEQA that may occur as a result of Project implementation.
