Project Info
- Title
- Zone 2 Line K Levee Remedial Work, Hayward, Alameda County, California
- Description
- The Alameda County Flood Control and Water Conservation District proposes to construct the necessary improvements along a portion of Zone 2, Line K (Sulfur Creek) to meet the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) levee certification requirements so that the south levee can be certified as providing 100 yr flood protection to the landslide of the levee. Otherwise, the landside properties will be mapped as a special flood hazard zone by FEMA requiring purchase of flood insurance. The Project construction area is ~ 2,100 linear feet long by 20 to 130 feet wide. It includes ~1,000 linear feet of channel work (excavation and trenching for a new 400 linear feet bypass channel and culvert installation underneath UPRR) and on the northerly bank, 1,700 linear feet of the southerly levee raising. The southerly levee crest elevation will be raised ~ 3 feet. The final crest width of 15 feet will be covered with gravel to provide year round maintenance access. Cofferdams will be used to dewater and direct flows out of the construction zone. Construction activities will take place along ~2,300 linear foot section of Sulphur Creek generally between the pump station and UPRR crossing in District Zone No. 2, City of Hayward.
