Title
Lower Blackwood Creek Restoration Project
Description
The California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) has executed Lake and Streambed Alteration Agreement number 1600-2014-0218-R2, pursuant to section 1602 of the Fish and Game Code to the project Applicant, Janet Shattuck. The project is limited to protection of approximately 80 feet of the south bank of Blackwood Creek using a rock apron with anchored Large Woody Material. The riparian vegetation on the upstream 50 feet of creek will remain and the downstream 30 feet which is bare will be re-vegetated. The downstream section will also receive a vegetated rock toe treatment behind the Large Woody Material anchored to the bank. Water in the creek will be diverted around the work area via a channel excavated across a low gravel bar on the opposite bank of the creek at the project site. The channel will be left in place following completion of bank stabilization to facilitate direction of flows away from the eroded bank and serve as a pilot to guide channel thalweg development away from the protected bank back toward the middle of the creek channel and provide conveyance area to compensate for additional hydraulic roughness due to Large Woody Material.
