Dutch Slough Tidal Marsh Restoration Project

Description

Project involves conversion and restoration of tidal marsh, riparian habitat enhancement and preservation, levee maintenance, infrastructure development, and protection for public access. The project site is within the range of the Covered Species and is known to support individuals of the species. Development of the Project site will result in the permanent loss of 20 known and potential nesting trees and the loss of foraging habitat for Swainson's hawk. The Project will create 560 acres of tidal marsh, including 10 acres of tidal channel, 26 acres of riparian forest, 76 acres of managed non-tidal marsh, 97 acres of subtidal open water habitat, and 4 acres of native grassland. The project will also maintain and enhance 173 acres of irrigated pasture land as foraging habitat for Swainson's hawks. The project is expected to result in incidental take of giant garter snake, which is designated as a threatened species, Swainson's hawk, which is designated as a threatened species, Delta Smelt, which is designated as an endangered species, Longfin Smelt, which is designated as a threatened species, Spring-run Chinook Salmon, which is designated as a threatened species, and Winter-run Chinook Salmon, which is designated as an endangered species listed under CESA that may occur as a result of project implementation.
