Title
Foothill Feeder Inspection and Maintenance Program
Description
The Metropolitan Water District of Southern California (Metropolitan) proposes to shutdown and dewater the Foothill Feeder pipeline to conduct prestressed concrete cylinder pipe (PCCP) testing and inspections, conduct associated maintenance activities, and connect the Joseph P. Jensen Filtration Plant Oxidation Retrofit Program equipment. Metropolitan plans to complete inspection of the PCCP segments of the Foothill Feeder to ensure the continued safety and reliability of Metropolitan's system. At the same time, connection of piping and conduits at the Jensen Plant is required to complete the construction of the ozone facilities under the ORP in order to replace chlorine with ozone as the primary disinfectant in the treatment process and comply with Stage 1 of the Disinfectants/Disinfection By-Products Rule by June 30, 2005. In late February 2005, the Foothill Feeder is scheduled to be completely dewatered from the Foothill Pressure Control Structure at Castaic Lake to the inlet of the Jensen Plant, permitting both projects to be executed simultaneously.
