Title
South Operations Headquarters Replacement Project
Description
The proposed project would construct a new headquarters and operations center complex (approximately 46,393 square feet) in Riverside County to replace the existing headquarters and operations center facility located at 2514 Mulberry Street in Riverside. The 10-acre site, which was historically used as a playing field for March Air Force Base, is now owned by the USFS. CDF will lease the land under a special use permit (Memorandum of Understanding to Coordinate Interagency Activity Related to Development of an Operations Coordination Center at March Air Force Base between USFS Pacific Southwest Region and CDF, September 24, 1999.) The site is generally located west of Riverside Drive (one of two north entrances to the former March AFB), south of Cactus Ave., and north of the intersection of Castle Street and Travis Street. Existing structures to be removed consist of nine small grandstands, two metal backstops, two field goals, and three lawn care sheds. New buildings would include an office/command center (12,335 gross square feet[gsf]), an administration building (20,874 gsf), a construction/engineering office building (3,498 gsf), an electrical shop (1,581 gsf), a mechanical shop (2,602 gsf), an auto shop (2,775 gsf), a central boiler/generator building (1,385 gsf), and a groundskeeper/hazardous materials building (1,320 gsf). The complex would house an emergency generator with fuel storage, a 120-foot-high communication tower, and telecommunications equipment. The project would also necessitate the establishment of new water, electrical, and sewer lines on the site. Some utility connections may require offsite improvements. Site work would include the installation of paving, curbs and gutters, landscaping, fencing, and signs. A fueling station would accommodate a single pump and two 1,000 gallon fuel tanks.
