Title
State Route 4 Tree Removal
Description
The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) in cooperation with the U.S. Forest Service (USFS) Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest is proposing to remove approximately 100 hazardous trees that are within 1.5 meters (5 feet) or less of traveled way on State Route (SR) 4 in Alpine County. For the purpose of this project, Caltrans has adopted the tree removal criteria used by the USFS. The removal criteria are discussed in the Tree Hazards: Recognition and Reduction in Recreation Sites handbook, USFS 1981. Many of the trees are currently damaged or dying and/or are close enough to the road that they pose a potential safety hazard to the traveling public.
