Document Description
Notice of exemption for Coastal Conservancy approval of grant funding at Sept 25, 2024 board meeting. In this project, Tamien Nation will build capacity and equip a native fire crew to steward tribal territory and implement prescribed fire and fueld reduction work at Henry W. Coe State Park in Santa Clara County. This phase of the project continues phase 1 work, but expands the crew, continues training, and allows the crew to implement additional work. Tamien Nation will purchase two ATVs and equipment for additional crew members.

Reasons for Exemption
The project is categorically exempt from review under the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) under 14 California Code of Regulations (CCR) Section 15304 (Minor Alternations to Land) which exempts minor alterations to the condition of vegetation without the removal of healthy, mature, or scenic trees. This project consists of management of existing native vegetation through the removal of dead, dying, and immature trees, thinning, prescribed fire, and other similar activities. These fuel management activities will not change the nature of the land or alter the basic character of the vegetation and habitat at the project sites.
