Document Description
The United States Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) with its non-federal sponsors, the Central Valley Flood Protection Board (Board) and San Joaquin Area Flood Control Agency (SJAFCA), plan to collect soil samples at Fourteenmile Slough pump station to inform a Phase II Environmental Site Assessment. A maximum of 20 drill holes will be sampled at the selected locations by using a hand auger and direct push drilling methods. Soil samples will be collected from the surface to the total drilled depth of 20 feet below ground surface, or until refusal. The samples would be analyzed for various contaminants of concern.

Reasons for Exemption
The Board has determined that the LSJR Improvement Project is exempt from CEQA under the CEQA CCR, Title 14, Sections 15304 (Minor Alterations to Land) and 15306 (Information Collection) categorical exemptions (CEQA CCR, Title 14, Sections 15304, 15306) because the proposed project consists of minor public or private alterations in the condition of land, water, and/or vegetation which do not involve removal of healthy, mature, scenic trees except for forestry or agricultural purposes. In addition, the proposed project includes the basic data collection, research, experimental management, and resource evaluation activities that do not result in a serious or major disturbance to an environmental resource. Further, none of the exceptions in CEQA CCR, Title 14, Section 15300.2 apply. Therefore, a Notice of Exemption will be filed with the State Clearinghouse. Please note, the signed NOE is not attached.
