Document Description
This project proposes to rehabilitate and reopen a 4.4-mile segment of State Route 39 (SR-39) from post miles 40.0 to 44.4, within the Angeles National Forest, in Los Angeles County. The purpose of this project is to reopen the closed section of State Route 39, thereby restoring access between Interstate 210 and State Route 2. This project would enhance access for fire suppression forces, search and rescue, and emergency response personnel, including the USFS and the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department. It also aims to improve the safety and operation of the roadway while preserving the integrity of the existing facility and its surrounding environment.
The Project Development Team has identified Alternative 2: Evacuation Route (Minimal Build) as the preferred alternative for this project. This alternative would offer a minimal approach to providing essential roadway improvements for this segment to function as an evacuation route during emergencies within the ANF. The preferred alternative places an emphasis on providing a secure and efficient route for immediate evacuation off of the mountain.
