Document Description
The project is limited to the removal of sediment and cattails from Pioneer Creek. The work will be completed using a backhoe. The project’s goal is to increase the potential volume along an approximately 150-foot-long portion of Pioneer Creek to prevent future flooding. The estimated average width of the channel excavation will be approximately 8-feet and the approximate depth of excavation will be approximately 1-foot, totaling approximately 45-cubic-yards of sediment removal. Work will be conducted when the creek is dry, or with a water diversion in place. Performing a water diversion will require amphibian surveys during the appropriate times of year, and prior to starting project activities. The work will be conducted using a backhoe and will take approximately two days to complete. The backhoe will be stored in previously disturbed areas at least 150-feet from the stream and will be used from the shoreline of the stream. The backhoe will not drive through the bed of the stream and will be operated from unvegetated or previously disturbed portions of the streambank. Removed sediment will not be stored within 150-feet of the stream to prevent unintended runoff.
