Document Description
The Department of Transportation (Caltrans) proposes to pulverize or cold plane the entire pavement area, replace all drainage, sidewalks, and guardrail from postmiles 50.6 to 53.1. Shoulder backing (three feet in width) will be placed where there is no sidewalk adjacent to U.S. Route 395. In addition, conceptual cross-section design options have been prepared for postmiles 51.2 to 51.7 (within the community of Lee Vining. Drainage facilities are proposed outside of existing Caltrans right of way, including culverts and detention basins on the east side of Lee Vining. The final location and size of the proposed culverts and detention basins have not been determined at this date. The detention basins will require excavation to approximately ten feet deep. An additional drainage design option is being considered which would construct an approximately twenty-foot wide bioswale inside Caltrans R/W in front of the Caltrans HMS, Mono County HMS, and Lee Vining High School parcels.
