Near Wheeler Ridge from the Grapevine Undercrossing to Route 5/99 Separation between post miles 10.2 to R15.9. The purpose of the project is to preserve the existing pavement on mainline Interstate 5 in both directions by removing and replacing failed slabs in the travel lanes and upgrading existing drainage systems.
The project would remove and replace existing failed slabs in the travel lanes with rapid strength concrete (RCS). Ramp and shoulder work will consist of 0.25 feet of cold plane of existing asphalt concrete and replace with 0.15 feet of hot mix asphalt (HMA) Type A, and with 0.10 feet of rubberized hot mix asphalt gap graded (RHMA) Type G, stopping short of the ramp termini. Other work includes installing inside and outside shoulder rumble strip, upgrading existing drainage system, dikes, roadside signs, Intelligent Transportation Systems elements and rehabilitating existing lighting systems. No right of way would be acquired and there is no night work.
