Document Description
The Project will reduce flood risk through strengthening of the NCC north levee and to enhance the aquatic and riparian habitat within the NCC channel for the primary benefit of juvenile salmonids. The Project consists of re-grading and enhancing approximately 14.5 acres of island habitat within the NCC, 1.5 acres of the NCC channel, 15 acres of the NCC north levee, and installation of fish screens. The Project is expected to benefit Chinook salmon of the Sacramento winter-run and spring-run ESUs (Oncorhynchus tshawytscha, pops. 7 and 11) and giant garter snake (Thamnophis gigas), referred to as the Covered Species. The Project is estimated to take individuals of the Covered Species in the form of catch, capture and relocation out of harm’s way; the Project may also result in take of individuals of the Covered Species in the form of incidental mortality during construction of the Project. CDFW has determined and expects that the Project will benefit, aid in the conservation of, and assist in the recovery of the Covered Species.
