Document Description
The Carr Lake Restoration and Park Development Project (Project) will restore 26 acres of riparian habitat and 40 acres of diverse upland grassland habitat, construct trails, bridges, boardwalks, and signage to facilitate public access, and develop park and recreation amenities on an additional 6 acres. The Project will convert agricultural land in an urban area to riparian and upland habitat by restoring Gabilan and Hospital Creeks and floodplain functions. The Project will restore and enhance riparian fish and wildlife habitat, improve water quality through stormwater treatment green infrastructure construction (distributary channels, seasonal and treatment wetlands, and an inset floodplain), enhance carbon sequestration in creeks and vegetated areas, and increase public access to natural areas. The Project will cover 73 acres in the City of Salinas, Monterey County. The Big Sur Land Trust owns the parcel and is partially funded through the DWR Urban Streams Restoration Project to complete this Project.
