Document Description
The Save the Redwoods League is working with the Mattole Restoration Council, the BLM, local landowners and contractors to implement fuels reduction treatments, including tree thinning, prescribed fire, pruning, and shrub removal to reduce fuel loads, improve forest health and enhance carbon sequestration in the Mattole watershed. A 4.2-mile, 200-foot wide shaded fuel break will be created on 102 acres of Stansberry Ranch and a 6.1-mile, 200-foot wide shaded fuel break will be created on 148 acres of BLM land. The two shaded fuelbreaks will connect to an existing 5.4-mile fuel break on Stansberry Ranch, thus creating a 15.7-mile long break that includes Pringle Ridge and Gillham Butte. Large wood derived from fuelbreak treatments will be installed in salmonid streams to enhance in-stream habitat complexity.
