Document Description
The Laney College Theater Building Modernization Project ("Project") at the Peralta Community College District's ("PCCD") existing Laney College campus involves renovations to the existing building, including increased seating capacity in the existing theater, new theater and rehearsal support spaces, and increased accessibility, in order to replace outdated equipment, increase efficiency, update the facility in conformance with modern instructional methodologies, and improve accessibility in accordance with ADA requirements. Specifically, basic theater upgrades include refinishing the stage floor, providing a new theater dimming system, upgrading the AV system, servicing and adding to the rigging system for stage draperies and lighting, replacing the existing orchestra pit cover with a platform system, creating new tormentor positions for lighting and sound equipment, adding a lighting bridge over the front orchestra, upgrading acoustics in the auditorium, installing a new sound door at the stage elevator opening, improving the dressing rooms, adding a backstage crossover behind the building and replacing the shop door with a sliding door. The Project will include revising orchestra seating, increasing row widths, adding accessible orchestra and balcony seating, and increasing the total seat count. The Project also will include relocating mechanical fans, providing new stairs and wheelchair lifts, creating new rehearsal room and performance space in the former mechanical room, constructing a lobby extension, and adding new accessible toilets. Revisions to the Theater Building's third and fourth floor will include providing storage and rehearsal space to support the performing and media arts programs. The Project will include related utilities work and site work, and other ancillary improvements.

Class 14: Minor additions to facilities within existing grounds.
