Notice of Exemption

Exempt Status
Categorical Exemption
Type, Section or Code
Section 15301 (Existing Facilities)
Reasons for Exemption
Section 15301 allows for the operation, repair, maintenance, permitting, leasing, licensing, or minor alteration of existing public or private structures, facilities, mechanical equipment, or topographical features, involving negligible or no expansion of use beyond that existing at the time of the lead agency's determination. The key consideration for projects in this class is whether the project involves negligible or no expansion to floor area of existing buildings, and would replace existing exterior access walkways with accessible and heated walkways to more safely serve faculty, staff, students and visitors. Therefore, the project qualifies for this exemption.
