The purpose of the project is to enhance and protect the Upper San Diego River through education, mapping and targeted removal of less than one acre of the invasive non-native plant Arunda danax or giant reed. Removing the small stands of Arundo that together comprise less than one acre in size enhances the quality of habitat by reducing fire risk, increasing water availability to native species, providing better quality habitat to native species for nesting, cover and foraging, and eliminates the risk of Arundo's further spread.
