Document Description
The San Diego Water Board issued a Clean Water Act section 401 water quality certification (Certification No. R9-2024-0050) to the Project Applicant to remove 247 damaged steel H-piles and associated fender systems and install 258 steel H-piles and associated fenders systems of the same size along Piers 1 and 3 and Building 13 Wharf (approximately 2,670 linear feet). Additionally, as-needed fender pile replacement of up to 195 H-piles and associated fender assemblies (not more than 39 replacements per year) on Piers 1 and 3 over the 5-year term of the permit is proposed to address damage associated with occasional vessel strikes. Project activities will result in permanent impacts to aquatic resources under the jurisdiction of the San Diego Water Board from the installation of additional fill and over-water surface water cover from current conditions. Unavoidable project impacts will be mitigated through the restoration of eelgrass habitat in San Diego Bay.
