Document Description
The project consists of the excavation and off-site removal of approximately 4,076 cubic yards of impacted soil. Soil samples collected and analyzed during a Preliminary Environmental Assessment (PEA) contained elevated concentrations of arsenic, lead, organochlorine pesticides (OCPs), and polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) near some of the on-site buildings and underneath a ·parking lot. Based on the data collected during the PEA, DTSC determined that further action was required to address the potential health threat to future students and staff posed by the presence of these elevated chemical concentrations at the Site. Due to the physical and chemical nature of the chemicals of concern (COCs) detected, any existing on-site releases would likely persist in shallow Site soil. The removal action will mitigate the identified potential threat to human health and the environment prior to developing the Site as a school.
