- Document Description
- The Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC) has approved the Revised Interim Measures Implementation Plan (Revised IMIP) for soil and groundwater contamination at the Polynt Composites USA, Inc. (Polynt) facility located at 2801 Lynwood Road, Lynwood, Los Angeles County, California. The Revised IMIP will expand the existing soil vapor extraction (SVE) system with the addition of air sparging (AS) to improve the rate of soil and groundwater contaminant removal. The proposed approach will introduce fresh air into the groundwater resulting in physical removal and biological degradation (destruction) of contaminants. Additional soil vapor extraction wells will remove contaminated soil vapor from the soil. A new thermal oxidizer unit will be installed to treat extracted vapor to the current air quality standards prior to discharge to atmosphere. The existing groundwater extraction and treatment (GET) system will be enhanced to include a combination of injection and extraction wells to increase groundwater flow and contaminant removal. Impacted groundwater will be extracted from beneath the site and then treated for removal of dissolved organic compounds including 1,4-dioxane. The extracted groundwater will be treated in a new above-ground system using activated carbon, hydrogen peroxide, and ultra-violet light. The treated groundwater will then be injected back into the subsurface through injection wells. The injected treated groundwater will enhance cleanup times by driving impacted groundwater more quickly to the extraction wells. After approval of the Revised IMIP, the project design and installation were changed to accommodate redevelopment of the property. These changes were: installation of well heads and piping underground; increased capacity of the groundwater treatment system; and relocation of the treatment system and electrical hookups. The “100% Design Report – Remediation Systems,” October 2, 2020, incorporates the project changes.
