Document Description
The District proposes to place gravel in the Reach 6 of the Guadalupe River channel to enhance aquatic habitat and fill voids in the Reach 6/3C transition. The District would monitor habitat quality, fish populations, and channel stability in the project areas to determine effectiveness and sustainability of gravel augmentation. The project would be conducted in two phases. Phase 1 would be located at Reach 6 upstream of Virginia Street at two deep pools within the river channel. Construction activities would take 2 to 4 weeks and would occur during the dry season (June 15 through October 15, unless otherwise approved by the regulatory agencies). Construction would require dewatering of up to 1,100 linear feet of the low-flow river channel. The District would stage construction activities at grassy areas on the floodplain east of the river. The District would use haul trucks to move about up to 1,160 cubic yards of gravel from the staging area to the dewatered sections of river via temporary access roads. Project access points would be restored to pre-project conditions. The success of Phase 1 would be evaluated based on both physical habitat and biological conditions. Lessons learned from Phase 1 would be used to direct Phase 2 and to determine if continuation of the project is beneficial and satisfies the objectives. See NOD for full details.
