Document Description
The City of San Diego (lead agency) approved a project to expand the existing North City Water Reclamation Plant and construct an adjacent North City Pure Water Facility with a purified water pipeline to Miramar Reservoir. Other project components include: a new pump station and forecemain to deliver additional wastewater to the North City Water Reclamation Plant, a brine discharge pipeline, and upgrades to the existing Metropolitan Biosolids Center. The Metropolitan Water District of Southern California (responsible agency) will enter into a Local Resources Program Agreement
with the San Diego Water Authority and the City of San Diego to provide funding for the North City Pure Water Facility, North City Pure Water Pump stations and conveyance pipeline to deliver purified water to the Miramar Reservoir, and influent structure and necessary facilities such as subaqueous pipeline to discharge the Project water into the reservoir. The recycled water will be used for surface water augmentation.

The North City Project includes a variety of facilities located throughout the central coastal areas of San Diego County in the North City geographic area of the University, Mira Mesa, Scripps, Miramar Ranch, Claremont Mesa, Linda Vista, Mission Valley, Kearny Mesa, Tierrasanta, and Navajo Community Plan Areas. A new pure water facility, expanded water reclamation facility, and three pump stations would be located within the corporate boundaries of the City of San Diego. Proposed pipelines would traverse a number of local jurisdictions, including the cities of San Diego and Santee, and the community of Lakeside and other areas in unincorporated San Diego County, as well as federal lands within the Marine Corps Air Station Miramar.
