The Preliminary Investigation Area (PIA) is a 1.7 mile radius around the Former Exide Facility located in Vernon. The PIA includes properties within the following seven jurisdiction: Cities of Bell, Commerce, Huntington Park, Los Angeles, Maywood, and Vernon and the County of Los Angeles. The area is urbanized and developed with residential, commercial, and industrial uses.
Document Description
The draft remedial action plan would address cleanup of lead impacted soil at sensitive land use properties located within the PIA. Cleanup would consist of soil excavation of up to 18 inches in accessible areas using small construction equipment. The PIA is included on the cortese list pursuant to code section 65962.5. It is anticipated that approximately 2,500 properties would be cleaned up in the first year of the project, at an average rate of approximately 50 properties per week.
