Document Description
The California Department of Transportation (Permittee) proposes to construct a 1,200-foot long soldier pile and lagging retaining wall along the south edge of the shoulder of westbound I-580. The retaining wall will be approximately 30 feet deep, with approximately 200 piles driven to a depth of 60 feet. Additionally, the Project will widen the inside shoulder by four feet and reconstruct the number one lane, the current metal beam guard rail will be replaced with a concrete barrier and California Department of Transportation electrical hardware will be relocated. To allow for construction of the Project, an electrical conduit running along the median shoulder will be removed and then be restored in the same place along the new concrete barrier, with access boxes installed in the barrier. This work will be accomplished from the roadway and shoulder of I-580 westbound. The Project also proposes to repair and upgrade existing drainage facilities, including an 85-foot-long cross culvert and a 300-foot-long downdrain into Mountain House Creek. The Project will result in 1.54 acres of temporary impacts to California tiger salamander (Ambystoma californiense) habitat; the Project will permanently remove 0.15 acres of California tiger salamander habitat. The project is expected to result in incidental take of California tiger salamander, which is designated as a threatened species under CESA. The ITP referenced above as issued by CDFW authorizes incidental take of species listed under CESA that may occur as a result of Project implementation.
