Document Description
The originally approved project consists of an amendment to Title 19 Kern County Zoning Ordinance (July 2012), with focus on Ch. 19.98 (Oil and Gas Production), to include new site development standards for all oil and gas exploration, extraction, operations, and production activities in unincorporated Kern County. CDFW, as the Responsible Agency, will be issuing an ITP for the project activity, which consists of the following: Aera Energy LLC will be engaging in activities to redevelop two oil well development blocks with the construction, operations and maintenance, and eventual plugging and abandonment of a total of 34 new wells including 28 oil production and 6 steam injection wells and associated infrastructure within an approx. 50-acre development envelope over 30 years.
The project will result in permanent impacts to 20.51 acres and temporary impacts to 5.47 acres of San Joaquin kit fox (Vulpes macrotis mutica) and San Joaquin antelope squirrel (Ammospermophilus nelsoni). The project is expected to result in incidental take of San Joaquin kit fox and San Joaquin antelope squirrel, which are designated as a threatened species under CESA. The ITP referenced above as issued by CDFW authorizes incidental take of species listed under CESA that may occur as a result of Project implementation.
