Document Description
The US Army Corps of Engineers completed an Environmental Impact Statement on the Redbank and Fancher Creeks Project in 1980 and made recommendations to help alleviate flooding in the Fresno area. The project included a detention basin on Pup Creek. The 200 year runoff model developed by the US Army Corps of Engineers contained a routing error on the Pup Creek system. The model assumed that Pup Creek North tributary runoff would flow under the Enterprise Canal and not flow into Enterprise Canal. The culverts beneath the canal are too small to convey the entire flow in two locations and therefore the canal bank is overtopped and a substantial amount of water enters the Enterprise Canal. The additional flow in the Enterprise reduces the capacity of the downstream channel which has the potential to cause flooding in the urban area.
