Document Description
The proposed project consists of the following two components: 1) the Newman Ridge Quarry; and 2) the Edwin Center. The Newman Ridge Quarry is an andesite quarry on ~278 acres, with operations occurring on ~216 acres. The production level of the Quarry is anticipated to be 5 million tons per year, to be extracted over ~50 years, depending on market demand. Material would be processed at the on-site processing facilities and then trucked and/or conveyed from the Quarry along an existing haul road to the Edwin Center for further processing and transported off-site via haul truck or rail. The Edwin Center would host various material processing facilities on ~113 acres, including an aggregate processing plant, an asphaltic concrete plant, a ready-mix concrete plant, an asphalt and concrete recycling facility, and a rail loadout facility for finished products. Mining would not occur within the Edwin Center, which is geographically separate from the Quarry. The railroad loadout facility would be located directly off the existing Union Pacific-Ione Branch rail. The majority of material processed at the Edwin Center would be railed to regional markets. The remaining material would be trucked directly to customers in the local market of Ione and throughout Amador County.
