Document Description
The project consist of the installation of an ultraviolet (UV) disinfection system with a capacity to disinfect peak wet weather flow of up to 3.7 million gallons per day (mgd) of treated wastewater (which includes 3.5 mgd of influent wastewater plus 0.2 mgd of backwash from the existing tertiary filters). The project will replace the existing chlorine disinfection system at the treatment plant and reduce disinfection byproducts in treated wastewater discharged to the Russian River, as required by Regional Board Waste Discharge Requirements (WDRs) Order No. R1-2003-0026, which serves as the District's National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) Permit (No. CA0024058).
