The proposed project would involve the removal of ~44,000 cubic yards of sediment from Old Alameda Creek at 2 locations between I-880 freeway and the 20 tide-gates structure ~3/4 mile southwest of Hesperian Avenue flood management. The purposes of the project are to increase flood protection of adjacent communities to meet FEMA flood protection standards and to function as a component to make th eSouth Bay Salt Pond Restoration Project plans for shorline habitat restoration feasible, reduce the amount of excessive sediment deposition by designing the levee system to take advantage of the effects of tidal scour and encouraging San Francisco Bay Trail use of the levees.
