The purpose of the Project is to restore two-way traffic on state route (SR) 140, and protect the roadway from future rockfall within the slide area, by constructing a strong rock-shed structure against the side of the slope and over the roadway along the original SR 140 alignment. After the roadway is re-opened to traffic, the detour bridges, paving on Incline Road, and associated structures will be removed and the entire area restored to a natural condition to conform to the visual and environmental standards of the Merced River Wild and Scenic River corridor.
